Bears usually attack in less populated areas. But last night, a bear wandered into the Soda Butte campground, and attacked three people. One person died, and two more were injured.Deb Freele, one of the victims, said that she instinctively played today when the bear bit her leg.“I screamed, he bit harder, I screamed harder, he continued to bite,” Freele said. When she realized screaming wasn’t scaring the bear, she decided to play dead. “I went totally limp. As soon as I went limp, I could feel his jaws get loose and then he let me go.”Another man was not so lucky. The names of the male victims have not been released. One was taken to the hospital, the other was reported dead this morning.Bear attacks are rare in The United States. CBS reports that in the past 110 years, only 108 deaths have been reported from bear attacks. Even though bears don’t often kill, there are still about 35 injuries from bear attacks a year.
