This sudden earthquake’s magnitude was a 5.5 on the Richter Scale. For most people that live on the West coast of the United States, a 5.5 earthquake is an almost everyday occurrence.
Which isn’t that big of a deal, right? Well, for most of Canada, earthquakes are rare. So when an earthquake hits it’s very frightening to Canadians, and also it’s a huge deal. Canada’s last earthquake was in 1998, but only a pretty low number of 4.6 magnitude.
In the offices and homes of Canadians, shelves were shaking vigorously, and the pictures/paintings were rattling on the walls!
The quake today was felt from Niagra Falls to Toronto to Ottawa, into the center of Quebec, about 38 kilometers above Cumberland, Ontorio, which is on the Ottawa River. But not only that, the earthquake was also felt in many of the United States, states, such as: Ohio, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, and New Jersey! Wow! That’s a lot of states!
