[UPDATE] Thailand Flood: Officials On Alert As Death-Toll Rises Over 40[UPDATE] Thailand Flood: At least 39 people have been killed and thousands forced to flee homes after more than a week of heavy rains caused flooding and mudslides in Southern Thailand. Thailand flood death toll claims 39 people and stranded thousands of tourists. The flooding has affected more than 716,000 people, the country’s disaster prevention agency said. Deputy Primie Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said in a related development that about one million people in the southern provinces had been affected by heavy flooding. He added, “There are roughly one million people affected in many provinces. At first we thought the flood would last a day or two, but now it has already been one week”.

According to the media sources, Thai troops joined the search for victims after deadly mudslides engulfed homes in the flood-hit south as naval boats rescued hundreds of tourists stuck on holiday islands. Deputy Primie Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said in a related development that about one million people in the southern provinces had been affected by heavy flooding.

He added, “There are roughly one million people affected in many provinces. At first we thought the flood would last a day or two, but now it has already been one week”. Thailand’s navy sent four vessels including an amphibious landing craft with on-board helicopters to the rubber-rich region to deliver supplies and rescue tourists and villagers in areas severely hit.
