Gillian Anderson, best known for her role as Agent Scully on The X Files, said she first experimented with women during her rebellious teenaged years
Gillian Anderson has revealed that she’s had romantic relationships with women. Anderson, best known for her role as Agent Scully on The X Files, said she first experimented with women during her rebellious teenaged years, when she moved from England to the United States.
She revealed in the upcoming April issue of Out magazine, “I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school. It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”
Then 1996′s sexiest woman in the world further said, ”If I thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me? Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that became huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation.”
She said that she had since had other relationships with women though they were the exception rather than the rule. Elsewhere in the interview, Anderson downplayed other same sex relationships she had. But her personal relationships are not the only way the actress likes to buck convention.
The 43-year-old actress said she was involved in a number of relationships purely for shock value, including one with a punk-rock drug addict and another with a much older man. Anderson also listed the other kinds of people that she dated in the past.
She also described how she reacted to the reception of her portrayal of Miss Havisham, a role normally reserved for older actresses. Anderson said the nonchalant attitude she held toward her same-sex relationships came from knowing she still liked men.
